What will you learn?

The first year of the course covers the units of Forces and Motion, Materials, Electricity and Waves and Photons. In the second year we study the fascinating units of Nuclear Decay, Particle Physics, Medical Physics and Cosmology in addition to the more classical units of Thermal Physics, Fields and Further Mechanics. The second-year topics combine the fundamental principles of Physics and content studied in year one to real applications that benefit society. Practical work is incorporated into lessons at every available opportunity.

How will you be assessed?

The written examinations take place at the end of the two-year course. These consist of three papers, the results of which contribute towards the final grade.

Throughout the course students complete the  ‘Practical Skills Endorsement’ component as well,  for which a pass or fail is awarded. The experiments chosen for this are closely related to the theoretical content of the specification and so reinforce learning as well as giving the students an opportunity to acquire valuable experimental and analytical skills.
