Mathematics

In A Level Mathematics, you will study Pure Maths, Mechanics and Statistics. Pure Maths includes algebra, calculus and trigonometry. Similar to Physics, Mechanics involves forces and motion of objects as well as kinematics. Statistics covers probability, statistical distributions arising from probability, interpreting and representing data.

You will sit three exams at the end of the two years:

• Paper 1 – Pure Maths (2hrs – 33%)
• Paper 2 – Pure Maths (2hrs – 33%)
• Paper 3 – Statistics & Mechanics (2hrs – 33%)

A Level Mathematics is one of the most versatile courses. It is a necessary qualification for many courses at the top universities including Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Physics, Chemistry and of course, Maths. It is also held in very high regard when applying for other courses like Medicine, Psychology, Biology and Philosophy.

If you feel your algebra is up to the challenge, Maths can be a rewarding subject to take. It is satisfying to work through a problem and get it right. Mechanics and Statistics both show in different ways how Maths can be applied to real life situations and there can be real satisfaction in seeing mathematical models being used to make accurate predictions about the real world.
