Mental health is a state of wellbeing in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.

Support
At St. Dominic’s Sixth Form College, the Personal Tutor is the first point of contact for students and parents/carers. In addition, there are Senior Tutors who, together with support staff, form the Student Services Team who are supported and led by members of the College Senior Leadership Team. The Student Services Team has the over-arching responsibility for the welfare and well-being of all our students.
A number of staff are also Mental Health First Aiders and are on hand to support students where necessary.
Counselling Support
The College has two external College counsellors who are available each week to see students with particular worries, difficulties or concerns. Students should discuss their concerns with their Personal Tutor who will be able to make an appropriate referral to the College Counselling team.
Students also have access to a Student Assistance Programme (SAP) which offers 24/7 support, 365 days of the year. This service is signposted to students within the tutorial programme, particularly in the lead up to recess/holiday periods.
