History

The History syllabus comprises of two examined modules to be studied during a two-year course based on 20th century British history and 19/20th century USA history. The third module comprises a historical enquiry, where students write a 4,500-word essay based on extensive in-depth research on the origins of the French Revolution that is placed in the context of 100 years.

Students will study both the Britain and USA modules throughout the two years at St Dominic’s and will complete the historical enquiry at the end of the first year.

Students will be assessed formally through the use of assessments (key assignments) and progress checks throughout each term. Additionally, students will be expected to engage in a variety of learning experiences including; individual, pair and group work. Students will be expected to fully engage in class discussions, presentations and utilise the extensive resources developed by the history department. These will also form part of your teacher’s assessment.

Many students go on to study history at Oxbridge and Russell group universities each year.  You could then go onto success in the following areas:

The course runs a wide range of extra-curricular trips including a residential trip to Paris, student lecture conferences and University visits.
