Exam Board: OCR
In Year 1 you will develop your GCSE studies into Algorithms such as the Bubble and Insertion Sorts and explore new areas such as Stacks and Queues and further explore the function of the processor. You will study Python, HTML, Javascript, SQL, PHP and the OOP Paradigm and gain knowledge of a variety of libraries such as tkinter, to manipulate a variety of data structures.
In Year 2 you will further develop your Year 1 learning of algorithms with new content such as the Merge and Quick sorts and Binary Trees and Hashing and add knowledge of Graphing (using A*, Dijstra). You will also complete your Coursework Project in an area of your choice.
There will be two, 2.5hr examinations at the end of Year 2. These count for 80% of your marks. Your coursework project will be assessed internally and will count for 20% of your overall marks.
Most graduates of this course study Computer Science or a closely related discipline at a Russell Group University. Universities offer a variety of specialist degrees in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and many others.
Similarly, your career choice as a Computer Science graduate is very broad and most students can obtain employment without the need for further study beyond basic degree level. A wide range of apprenticeship opportunities also exist in this area.
Computer Science is a widely accepted A Level – valid for entry onto Degree Courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Accountancy and the Sciences.
