Exam Board: Eduqas
Year One (Personal Creative Enquiry): You will explore a theme of your choice, learning how to be creative and experimental whilst also developing sound skills in analytical drawing and a range of 2D and 3D techniques such as painting, printmaking, illustration, graphics, textiles, 3D, photography and digital art. You will learn how to work methodically in your work journal, developing ideas that are informed by the study of known artists, eventually culminating in the production of an outcome. You will learn how to communicate ideas for art and design by contributing in regular critiques or whole class discussions.
Year Two (Personal Investigation and Externally Set Assignment): For your Personal Investigation, you will continue to develop and refine art and design skills whilst exploring a theme of your choice. Further, more in depth study of artist’s work will inform your own work and processes will be explored even more thoroughly, eventually resulting in a final piece of work. For your Externally Set Assignment, you will choose from (approximately) 14 broad themes set by the examining board, Eduqas and develop ideas and work using media and techniques of your choice and working towards a 15-hour exam in which you will create a final resolve.
Work is assessed regularly through one-to-one discussions, using Eduqas Assessment Objectives. Action planning is built into every discussion to enable students to always have a purposeful line of enquiry to investigate. Summative assessments are carried out at the end of each term in Year One and at the end of each component in Year Two.
All the work you produce contributes towards an art portfolio which is used for applications to art foundation and degree courses. These courses can lead to a wide variety of careers in the creative arts such as illustration, graphic design, film, animation, web design, fashion and textiles, 3D design, architecture.
If you have not studied art and design at GCSE level, you will be asked to present a portfolio of work which will be reviewed at enrolment by the Head of Art and teaching team.
