End of Year Summer Concert
On Monday night we held our final musical event of the year – and the final concert led by me as retiring Director of Music.
The event was an eclectic mix of offerings from our talented students, including some choral pieces by Faure and Billy Joel, all beautifully accompanied by Paul Ayres on organ and piano. Student solos were outstanding, in particular Ava Gollings’ rendition of Debussy’s ‘Girl with the flaxen hair’ on piano, and Kelly Fernandes singing ‘Stormy Weather’ with all the panache of Lena Horne. Grace Sheehan sang the ‘Pie Jesu’ from Faure’s requiem with a stunning soprano tone and control. As an encore, I sang ‘Time to Say Goodbye’, and there was not a dry eye in the house! Afterwards, we enjoyed some live rock music and home made burgers under the shack. All in all it was a delightful summer and farewell event.
