On the afternoon of the 2nd of July, staff and students gathered on the sports field under warm sunshine to celebrate Sports Day. The programme was packed with lighthearted competition: space hopper races, egg-and-spoon dashes, three-legged races, wheelbarrow races, and an obstacle course that had everyone cheering. These events led into the closely fought sprint finals, before the day built to its traditional grand finale, the tug of war, always the most fiercely contested event between staff and students.
The students’ heats proved so intense that one rope snapped under the strain. The winning girls’ and boys’ teams then advanced to face the staff.
In the female staff versus female students’ final, the contest was tight throughout. The students took an early lead, but the staff team rallied, and their determination paid off, with the female staff reclaiming the title after last year’s defeat.
The male staff versus male students’ final was equally hard-fought, with both sides gaining ground early on. In the end, the staff team, anchored by Andrew, held firm as the students began to tire, eventually pulling them over the line to retain their unbeaten record for another year.
