St Dom’s celebrates a year of success with its first ‘In Bloom and Open House’ event
St. Dominic’s hosted and welcomed local residents, parishoners and those who wished to see ‘beyond the College gates’ for its first ever ‘In Bloom and Open House’ event on Wednesday July 2nd. Despite uncertain climatic conditions, the mizzle stopped and the clouds lifted as over 50 students welcomed guests for a tour, a cup of tea and a piece of delicious Victoria Sponge!
Many of our neighbours joined the tours and were shown our extensive and beautiful grounds, our historic fruit trees and our ten beehives led by students and our Groundsman, Dominic Kelly. One resident commented ‘It has been a real delight to see around the College and to meet so many engaged and knowledgeable students. They were a real credit to St. Dominic’s’.
Following the tours, the College auctioned the various plants and pots that were grown by students and staff and the top prize of ‘Best in Show’ was won by Examination Officer, Susan O’Brien with her planter entry in a kitchen colander! A fun and joyful auction raised over £300 for local charities, ‘Harrow in Leaf’ and St. Luke’s Hospice.
The Principal, Andrew Parkin commented ‘St Dom’s in Bloom has been a really fantastic event bringing our College to the local community and providing an opportunity to showcase our grounds, our students and all the great work that goes on here, day by day. It is definitely going to be an annual event and I look forward to something even bigger in 2026!’
