At St Dominic’s we have a Climate and Local Action committee that all students are welcome and encouraged to join. In this committee we have regular meetings regarding our plans for the next year and long-term strategies. As a committee, we work together to discuss student aims so we can plan termly actions, such as the College going paperless for a day. Our students have been very active in supporting the colleges application for the Eco-Schools Green Flag award.

We will also be planning fundraising events to raise money for Ecologi – a platform we use as a College, where we fund projects thanks to the proceeds raised from these events. Ecologi is an interactive website which we can use to track this progress and the projects funded; as a college we have funded projects ranging from production of energy from waste rice husks in India, to wind energy generation in Taiwan. Over the years we have planted over 31,000 trees – the alternative of 87.5 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide! It is amazing to read about these projects and helps us to understand the impact the College has had on the environment; this reinforces the importance of Ecologi and the dedication of St Dominic’s Climate committee.
