St Doms Choir Slam!

After the success of our 2018 Choir Slam! Festival, we are thrilled to be hosting the event once again in our stunning chapel.  The date is Tuesday, July 2nd 2019.

To forge musical links between schools and foster excellence in choral singing.

Curriculum Objectives




Students will prepare high-quality performances in advance to showcase on the day. They will evaluate each performance and share ideas and enthusiasm for singing. They will explore new techniques of vocal production and arrangement culminating in a group performance.


School choirs or vocal groups of between four and thirty singers. There will be two age group categories: 7-11 and 11-18


All styles of music and choirs are welcome




Acoustic accompaniment or backing tracks may be used.  We have a piano and an organ. You will need to bring your own accompanist. A Capella is most welcome and sounds fabulous in the acoustic of our Chapel.

Break - Choirs will be given a room to practise in. Ensure we have your backing tracks and programme!

Each choir will sing 2 pieces (time limit 10 minutes)

Terms and Conditions

Your choir's place is not guaranteed until payment has been received.  

At the time of booking, we ask you to confirm the number of people attending from your choir.  We will ask you to confirm the names of those attending closer to the event.   

Deadline for entries is June 3rd 2019 – if we exceed capacity, entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

  • Entry is open to all schools choirs either Primary or Secondary.
  • Choirs/vocal ensembles should comprise between 4 and 30 singers.
  • Schools may enter more than one choir if they wish. A separate entry form is necessary for each choir.
  •  A piano and organ are available for accompaniment. 
  • Two items should be sung. 10 minutes duration maximum.
  • Choirs are asked to submit copies of the sheet music for each item showing copyright details of composer, arranger and publisher where appropriate.
  • The programme may include any style of music.
  • Judging will be by peer scoring system where choirs will each vote for the winners of each category.
  • Choirs may be under the direction of a teacher or student. Student arrangement or direction is greatly encouraged.

During the event, we would like to take photographs for our website, local press, College newsletter and other social media.  If you do not consent, please let us know in writing.


Venue Information

Access arrangements:  Seating is available at ground level.  There will also be space for wheelchairs as required (advance notice is required for wheelchair access). Should you have any special requirements, these can be sent to us for consideration up to seven days before the event.

There will be a small storage area available for those bringing instruments, storage facilities are provided at the owner's own risk.  We also provide a piano and an organ for those wishing to use them.  Choirs must bring their own accompanist. Choirs may also opt to perform a cappella.  

There is a small amount of parking available in and around the College.  There is also room for coaches to drop off and pickup.  There are however, no parking facilities available for coaches.

There is a cafe on site offering drinks, sandwiches and light snacks for purchase.  Attendees are also welcome to bring their own refreshments.  The local shops and restaurants are a 10 minute walk from the venue.
