The College administers the Government funded Further Education Free School Meals (FSM) and 16-19 Bursary Fund.  Please note receipt of free meals in secondary school is not an automatic continuation in Sixth Form.  Applications are Means Tested based on total household income and original documentation will be required to support this.  The Bursary Fund awarded will be subject to Terms and Conditions as set by the College including behaviour and attendance.   Please collect an application form from Student Services (C109) or download a copy by clicking on the document below.

Guidelines

These Guidelines have been developed by St Dominic’s Sixth Form College to promote fairness and consistency. They do not replace the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) funding guidance which providers must follow.

The purpose of the Bursary is to support and retain students:

• promote a positive attitude to learning
• the Bursary is based on attendance, punctuality, good conduct and our learner agreement
• the Bursary will be applied fairly and consistently
• the process should be clear and accessible to all students in the College
• eligible students will be identified and assessed in a designated time frame and kept informed of their application process
• the scheme will be used to maximise the amount of funding available to support individual students

The 16-19 Bursary Fund has two elements.

Full Bursary Awards

Full Bursary awards are for Young people in Care, Care Leavers, young people in receipt of Income Support (or Universal Credit) in their own name or disabled young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance, who are also in receipt of Disability Allowance (or Personal Independence Payments) - both are eligible to receive a Bursary.

Learners Eligible for Discretionary Bursaries

To be eligible for a discretionary bursary, the young person must be under 19 years of age on the 31^st August 2022.

Discretionary awards will be made to the following learners in this order of priority.

• Learners in other vulnerable groups
• Young people with LDD but who are not in receipt of ESFA of DLA or PIP
• Young Carers – Supporting letter from Social Worker, Key Worker, Doctor etc
• Learners receiving free school meals through the Universal & Free School Meals system (receipt of free meals in secondary school is not an automatic continuation in sixth form)
• Families receiving income-related benefits and/or whose family annual household income is below £16,190 per year
• Learners whose family annual household income is between: £16,191 - £30,000 per year.

Conditions of Receipt of a Bursary Award

The application will consist of a signed contract which confirms the legitimacy of the evidence provided for the household income.

The awards will be conditional on the attendance and behaviour of the student attending the College, the conditions will include:

• regular attendance- 95% (including authorised study leave)
• punctuality – maximum of two late marks in one week
• appropriate behaviour - not in breach of the College’s code of conduct/learner agreement/behaviour policy
• It will be the student’s responsibility to ensure that their attendance record is amended every week with the Student Services office.

Note:  Bursaries will NOT be awarded if funds are exhausted.

Where funds remain, learners can forward a case for one-off payments to meet a particular need; i.e.  an educational trip that supports the course being studied.

Appeals Procedure

If you do not agree with the action taken you must appeal in writing to Ms J Cope, Assistant Principal, Student Services.
