Sports Update - April 2023

Volleyball Team Plays First Match Against Kingsbury High School

On Monday 24th April, the volleyball team played their inaugural match against Kingsbury High School in the Siena Hall. The team formed about four months ago, and with the passion of Chris Wong, have practised consistently to put themselves in a good position to play their first match.

The first game of the evening was a men's match. The rallies were superb, with some amazing gets that got the spectators cheering loudly. It was incredibly close, with Kingsbury taking the first set, however, we rallied strongly in the second set and took it to play a final set decider. The camaraderie of the team shone through as well as the many hours practice as we prevailed to win the decider and take the victory!

The second game of the evening was a mixed match, and again, it was an evenly fought battle. St Dominic's took a storming lead in the first half, only to be pegged back by Kingsbury, who eventually won the opening set.  A brief team huddle got us back on track and we managed to win the second set to take it into a decider. However, Kingsbury prevailed in the final set, and we 2 games to 1.

It has been a great pleasure to see the enthusiasm the team and many of the students at St Dom's have for volleyball. We hope to continue growing the sport next academic year.  Thank you to Chris Wong for his dedication in coaching the team so superbly this season;  his passion has been infectious, and one of the key drivers to getting the team up and running this year.  Well done Chris!
