HIV/AIDs awareness | Emma Cole: Positive Voice

Students today burst into spontaneous applause as Emma Cole, an inspirational speaker, ended her talk about living with HIV on an upbeat note.  It was applause for her courage, for a story told with honesty and humour and for her willingness to answer question after question from students.  Emma explained the difference between HIV/AIDs and charted how treatment has improved since her diagnosis over thirty years ago.  Her aim is to dispel misperceptions about HIV/AIDs, to encourage everyone to be mindful of their sexual health and not to take risks and to help do away with the stigma which still surrounds this disease.  She is a remarkable woman who left her listeners profoundly moved.  She will be very much in all our thoughts in the lead up to World Aids Day on 1st December.
