Students today burst into spontaneous applause as Emma Cole, an inspirational speaker, ended her talk about living with HIV on an upbeat note.  It was applause for her courage, for a story told with honesty and humour and for her willingness to answer question after question from students.  Emma explained the difference between HIV/AIDs and charted how treatment has improved since her diagnosis over thirty years ago.  Her aim is to dispel misperceptions about HIV/AIDs, to encourage everyone to be mindful of their sexual health and not to take risks and to help do away with the stigma which still surrounds this disease.  She is a remarkable woman who left her listeners profoundly moved.  She will be very much in all our thoughts in the lead up to World Aids Day on 1^st December.
