HE & Careers Day 2020
Higher Education & Careers Day 2020
Our highly anticipated annual HE & Careers Day took place on Monday 27th January. Year on year this annual event has grown and last week we welcomed more than 120 external visitors for a fully interactive careers morning, giving our year 1 students the opportunity to engage with representatives from over 50 universities on a one-to-one basis in the Careers Fair, learning about the various degree courses they offer and university life in general. This event, early in their level 3 programmes, is usually the first exposure our students will have had to higher education.
Although 90%+ of our students go on to university, we understand that it isn’t for everyone, and the Careers Fair also showcased a broad range of national and local employers and some of the UK’s largest training and apprenticeship providers including British Airways, TFL, The Armed Forces and Metropolitan Police, construction and real estate companies.
In tandem with the universities and employers in the Careers Fair, we were delighted to host many external speakers, representing 32 different careers, whose brief was to provide the students with a taste of where their hard work and dedication to their education can lead and the pathways to achieving their individual career goals.
Very shortly, the students will be asked to feed back their opinions on HE & Careers Day, and offer their views on improvements we could make in the future. Their feedback is crucial in keeping this a current and meaningful careers event and maintaining the standards we hold, which led to the College renewing its recent Quality in Careers award and kitemark.
I am delighted to report that we have had some excellent feedback from our visitors, all of whom found our students to be engaging and enthusiastic. Here are some of their comments:
