Information for Parents - 40th Anniversary Mass at Westminster Cathedral

Information for Parents

Dear Parents and Guardians

Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate 40 years of St Dominic’s Sixth Form College, March 24th 2020

I am pleased to inform you that St Dominic’s will be holding a special Mass and Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Cathedral on the 24th March to celebrate our 40th Anniversary year which will be led by Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the leader of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.   This will be the first time in our history that we have taken the whole College to the Cathedral Church in Victoria and I hope it will be a memorable occasion for the whole community.

I expect all students to attend and we have made special arrangements with TFL for free tube travel on the day.  Students will depart the College in groups of 20 and be accompanied by 2 members of staff.  There will be lessons in the morning as usual and we plan to depart the College from 10.50 onwards as we need to be in the Cathedral by 1.30pm.   Students should be smartly dressed.

This is a very special and unique event for us as a College and of course we expect the high standards of behaviour whilst on route to the Cathedral and during the service itself.

The service will end at 3.15pm and students will be dismissed from the Cathedral and return home in groups from Victoria Station with staff members.  Please complete the reply slip on the reverse of the letter emailed to parents to confirm that you are happy for your son/daughter to take part in this special event, together with your preferred method of them returning home.

Please ask your son/daughter to return the slips to their Personal Tutor.

To allow all members of staff to attend, there will be no food service on the day and students should bring their own food as there will be no time, on route, to buy lunch.  Those on Free School Meals will be contacted by student services in advance.  As previously mentioned, we have 50 spaces for parents.

If you wish to attend please email Sian Thorpe to request a ticket which will be either emailed or posted to you in due course.

This will be one of the highlights of our anniversary year and I hope that you will support us with this unique event.
