St Dominic's Choir Slam!

Choir Slam 2019

St Dom's Choir Slam was a resounding success for the second year running.  It featured St Robert Southwell (winners in the junior category), St Teresa's, St John Fisher, St Anselm's and St Ignatius (winners in the senior category). It was a real joy to hear the chapel full of laughter and singing as the choirs tackled a capella techniques, beat boxing and tongue twisting rounds before treating us all to their prepared performances. I can honestly say that St Teresa's rendition of  'I am a child of God' brought me to tears in both the rehearsal and the performance.

It was impossible to deny Robert Southwell the trophy however, as they combined stunning two-part singing of Dvorjak's new world symphony with Bach's organ Toccata in D minor, and then launched into a joyful arrangement of 'Happy'. All credit to the teacher/arranger/accompanist Iwona Minor as well as the solo singers and excellent young flautist. St Ignatius' Boys School were a deserved winner of the senior category, providing a high standard of part singing in very difficult arrangements. Their rendition of 'Mr Blue Sky' in particular was outstanding. We are already planning next year's event!
