St Dominic's Goes North!

St Dominic's Goes North!
The Year 2 Student Executive had the opportunity to visit Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington last Friday. This is the College where Andrew studied for his A levels in English, History and Music all those years ago! Despite the near blizzard, we braved the inclement weather to meet the Principal at 6.30am at Kings Cross to board the 7.00am train to Darlington. Upon arrival at QE we were met by members of their student leadership team who presented us with information about their Student Association, the history of QE and how life is for students in the North-East. We then had the rare opportunity of going to class with students from QE who were studying the same subjects as ourselves; this was fantastic and really interesting to see. A lovely lunch was provided for us and we were then given a tour by Tim Fisher, QE Principal and Andrew who was able to reminisce about his time at the College. The day ended at 3.30pm when we boarded the train back to London after a really fantastic day.
Ali Reyazat adds 'Darlington was a nice cosy town which really made me change how I perceive the North'. We had the pleasure to meet with the 'executive' branch of Queen Elizabeth, exchanged thoughts and explained our differences in school structure, work and overall responsibilities. It was fascinating to learn the intricate detail they had considered when dividing the responsibilities among themselves. I personally enjoyed the opportunity of making multiple friends and exchanging good laughs and ideas with their students; I found them to be extremely warm, kind and friendly with just as much dedication and determination to succeed in their academic lives while maintaining a balanced social life as down here in St Dominic's. It was a trip I won't soon forget, and I'm grateful to have been part of it.
A quick thank you to both Andrew and the Executive for making it so special!
