The college is very committed to providing every student with the opportunity to achieve his or her maximum potential. It is important to us that students of all academic and physical abilities are catered for and given every opportunity to succeed.
Before admission we discuss with every applicant any special educational needs which they may have. Where the applicant has a severe physical disability, we will ensure that their chosen programme is designed to match their needs.
At induction every student is assessed for their individual needs and personal learning styles by the Study+ Manager.
Once enrolled we provide a range of facilities which provide guidance and support including:
- Trained specialist teachers who provide classroom and individual support as required.
- Care assistants for those with mobility difficulties.
- Assistants for note taking and examination support for those with long term or temporary disabilities.
- Excellent IT facilities providing access to learning materials at any workstation within the college and at home day or night.
- Adaptation of student computer workstations to facilitate physical and visual impairment.
- Provision of a personal laptop computer in certain situations of particular need.
- Use of high definition staircase stripes to aid the visually impaired.
- Availability of specialist equipment and material for the visually impaired as required.
- Provision of permanent induction loops in all public areas and facilities to provide additional loops in classrooms as required.
- Continuous review and assessment of needs including the option of referral to educational specialists.
- Extensive pastoral support in the monitoring of all students' achievement levels in every subject, each term to help each person maximise their performance.
The College has produced a detailed description of its provision for the disabled in the College Disability Statement which is available on request. |
