A Level Design & Technology

Design Tech

Design & Technology plays an important role on all of our lives. It determines what we buy; it changes with fashion and keeps us up to date by introducing us to the latest technologies. Without the Design world, our lives would be very dull indeed!

A level Design & Technology comprises of four units over two years. The specification is designed to encourage students to:

  • Develop and sustain imagination and innovation when working with RMT, Graphics or Textiles materials.
  • Initiate design solutions, develop, test and trial prototypes and models.
  • Develop an understanding of contemporary design and technological practices.

Within the first year, students take part in an Advanced Innovative Challenge as well as a Product Study. The students have free choice as to what area to study.

The A2 year encourages students to produce a coursework portfolio and product that fully demonstrates their designing, making and evaluation skills using flair, creativity and innovation. Again, each student has free choice as to which discipline (RMT, Textiles, Graphics) to focus.
